All unit equivalents

Mathematical / technical context

All torques normalize to newton-meters (N·m). Torque = force × perpendicular distance.

N·m = ft·lb × 1.35582 · ft·lb = N·m × 0.737562 · 1 ft·lb = 12 in·lb · 1 kgf·m ≈ 9.807 N·m

Step-by-step torque conversion examples

N·m → ft·lb: 100 N·m × 0.737562 = 73.8 ft·lb

ft·lb → N·m: 30 ft·lb × 1.35582 = 40.7 N·m

ft·lb → in·lb: 1 ft·lb × 12 = 12 in·lb

N·m → kgf·cm: 10 N·m ≈ 102 kgf·cm

Complete guide to N·m, ft·lb & torque unit conversion

Torque unit converter — N·m, ft·lb, in·lb, and kgf·m

A torque unit converter switches between how rotational tightening and twisting force is expressed. This free torque conversion calculator handles newton-meters (N·m), foot-pounds (ft·lb), inch-pounds (in·lb), kilogram-force meters (kgf·m), and kgf·cm — for automotive specs, bolt charts, and mechanical engineering.

Use it to convert torque, build a live torque conversion chart, or answer convert nm to ft lbs / ft lb to nm conversion without mental math. All torque conversion runs locally — nothing is uploaded.

Nm to ft·lb — conversion nm to ft lbs torque

The most common task is convert nm to ft pounds — also written nm into ft lbs, conversion from nm to ft lbs, conversion torque nm to ft lbs, or convert nm to ft lb torque. European and ISO specs use N·m; US service manuals use ft·lb.

ft·lb = N·m × 0.737562  ·  N·m = ft·lb × 1.35582

Quick anchors: convert 1 nm to ft lbs = 0.738 ft·lb · convert 12 nm to ft lbs ≈ 8.85 · convert 25 nm to ft lbs ≈ 18.4 · convert 30 nm to ft lbs ≈ 22.1 · convert 60 nm to ft lbs ≈ 44.3 · convert 75 nm to ft lbs ≈ 55.3 · convert 200 nm to ft lbs ≈ 147.5 · 110 nm to ft lbs torque conversion ≈ 81.1 · 120 nm to ft lbs torque conversion ≈ 88.5.

Use this page as a convert nm to ft lbs calculator or convert nm to ft lbs torque chart — enter any N·m value for an instant ft·lb result.

Ft·lb to N·m — ft lb to nm calculator and chart

Reverse direction: conversion ft lb to nm, conversion ft lbs to nm torque, convert ft lb to nm torque, convert torque ft lbs to nm, and ft lb to nm calculator. Multiply ft·lb by 1.35582 to get N·m.

Common lookups: 10 ft pounds to nm ≈ 13.6 N·m · 30 ft pounds to nm ≈ 40.7 · 33 ft pounds to nm ≈ 44.7 · 40 ft pounds to nm ≈ 54.2. Wheel lug specs often sit in this range — always follow the vehicle manufacturer chart.

Conversion torque lb ft to nm and conversion nm to ft lbs chart tables list the same factors; this tool replaces static posters with any input value.

Inch-pounds, ft·lb, and kgf units

Ft lb to inlb / convert ft lbs to in lbs: 1 ft·lb = 12 in·lb. Convert in lbs to ft lbs: divide in·lb by 12.

Conversion torque nm to in lbs / convert nm to in lbs torque / convert in lbs to nm torque: use the in·lb unit in the dropdown, or multiply ft·lb by 12. 1 N·m ≈ 8.851 in·lb.

Metric torque: conversion kgm to nm torque / convert lb ft to kg m refer to kgf·m (kilogram-force meter). 1 kgf·m ≈ 9.807 N·m. Convert nm to kgf / conversion nm to kgf / convert nm to kgf cm: select kgf·m or kgf·cm — 1 N·m ≈ 10.20 kgf·cm ≈ 0.102 kgf·m.

Convert torque to nm from any supported unit by choosing it as the From unit and N·m as To.

Torque vs force — use the right converter

Torque (N·m, ft·lb) is force × distance — rotational tightening. Force (N, lbf, kN) is a straight push or pull. They are different dimensions; do not convert N·m directly to lbf without a lever arm length.

Searches like lbf to nm, convert lbf to nm, lbf to nm converter, or convert nm to lbf often confuse force with torque. Example: 50 lbf on a 1 ft wrench = 50 ft·lb torque ≈ 67.8 N·m — you need both force and radius.

For pure force unit scaling — not covered on this page — use our separate Force Converter:

  • Force converter / convert n to lbf — newtons ↔ pound-force
  • Lbf to kg / 1 lbf berapa kg / n to kg converter — force vs mass; see Force Converter (1 lbf ≈ 0.454 kgf as force, not mass on Earth)
  • Ton to kn conversion, convert kn to ton calculator, 1 kn to ton calculator, convert kilonewton to ton — metric ton-force ↔ kN on the Force tool, not here

This keeps torque conversion content focused on N·m, ft·lb, in·lb, and kgf torque units without duplicating force articles.

Bolt torque charts and automotive specs

Bolt torque conversion and bolt torque conversion chart entries in manuals list the same N·m ↔ ft·lb factors for each fastener size. After reading a spec in ft·lb, convert here to N·m for a metric wrench, or the reverse.

Convert bolt torque to force, convert torque to force, convert torque to force on bolt, and convert torque to force calculator need clamp length and thread geometry — not a simple unit factor. Unit conversion (ft·lb → N·m) is what this tool provides; engineering clamp load is a separate calculation.

Convert nm to torque is identity — N·m already is the SI torque unit. Pick N·m in the dropdown to normalize any input.

What this torque converter is not

This tool converts torque units only. It does not replace other physics calculators:

  • Bar to nm torque conversion, 200 bar to nm torque conversion, convert psi to ft lbs torque, convert torque nm to bar, convert torque nm to psi, convert torque to pressure — pressure (bar, psi) belongs on the Pressure Converter; hydraulic torque wrenches couple pressure to torque via piston area, which is equipment-specific.
  • Convert rpm to g force, rcf rpm conversion, rcf to rpm conversion, centrifuge convert g to rpm, convert g to rcf — need rotor radius (RCF = 1.118 × 10⁻⁵ × r × RPM²); use a dedicated centrifuge calculator.
  • Convert torque to horsepower — power = torque × angular velocity (hp = T × RPM / 5252 for ft·lb); requires RPM, not unit conversion alone.
  • Convert wind speed to force, convert wind pressure to wind speed — aerodynamic formulas on the Wind Speed Converter for speed units only.
  • Convert tension to torque on capstans/winch drums — depends on drum diameter (T = F × r).

Detailed guide

Torque ≠ force

100 lbf applied at a 2 ft radius = 200 ft·lb torque. Force alone (lbf, kN) converts on the Force Converter; torque converts here.

Wrench units on cars

US manuals: ft·lb. European: N·m. A typical wheel nut might be 80–140 N·m (59–103 ft·lb) — check your sticker.

In·lb for small fasteners

Electronics and small bolts use in·lb. 120 in·lb = 10 ft·lb ≈ 13.6 N·m.
