g/mL, specific gravity, and liquids

For liquids, one millilitre equals one cubic centimetre, so g/mL and g/cm³ are numerically identical. Diesel might show specific gravity (SG) around 0.85 relative to water — multiply SG by 1,000 to get kg/m³ (850 kg/m³ for SG 0.85).

Specific gravity has no units; it is density divided by water density. SG 1.0 means 1 g/cm³ = 1 g/mL = 1,000 kg/m³.
