One cubic centimeter (cm³) equals exactly 1 milliliter. That identity drives most lab and kitchen conversions: divide cm³ by 1,000 to get liters, or multiply liters by 1,000 to get cm³.

Reverse: 1 L = 1,000 cm³ = 1,000 mL. A 1 cm × 1 cm × 1 cm cube holds 1 mL of water at room temperature. To convert milliliters to liters, divide mL by 1,000. Small recipe amounts like 40 mL, 180 mL, or 250 mL convert to cups using the US cup factor below.

CBM (cubic meter, m³) is freight and construction shorthand. 1 m³ = 1,000 liters. To convert m³ to liters, multiply by 1,000. To convert liters to m³, divide by 1,000.

US shipping and HVAC often use cubic feet (cu ft, cft). 1 ft³ ≈ 28.317 liters and 1 m³ ≈ 35.315 ft³. To convert CBM to cubic feet, multiply m³ by 35.315.

To calculate CBM from millimetre dimensions on a carton: convert mm → m (÷ 1,000 per edge), multiply length × width × height for m³, then read liters or ft³ here. When converting inch dimensions, convert inches → meters first, then cube — do not cube the inch-to-meter factor incorrectly.

US legal cup = 236.588 mL (often rounded 237 mL). To convert cups to milliliters, multiply cups by 236.588. 4 cups ≈ 946 mL — one US quart.

To convert milliliters to cups, divide mL by 236.588. Examples: 500 mL ≈ 2.11 cups · 200 mL ≈ 0.85 cups · 25 mL ≈ 0.11 cups. One US pint = 473.176473 milliliters exactly.

About 4.227 US cups fit in one liter. Metric recipes using 250 mL cups differ slightly — check which cup standard the author used before scaling a recipe.
