Complete guide to DPI, PPI & print pixel sizing

DPI calculator — pixels, inches & mm at any density

A DPI calculator (dots per inch) or PPI calculator (pixels per inch) converts between digital resolution and physical size. Enter pixel width and height plus a DPI value to get print dimensions in inches and millimeters — or start from inches and get required pixel counts. This free online DPI calculator runs entirely in your browser for design, print prep, and screen mockups.

Whether you need a screen DPI calculator at 96 CSS pixels, a DPI monitor calculator workflow for asset export, or print sizing at 300 DPI, the core formula is the same: pixels = inches × DPI.

DPI conversion formula — pixels ↔ inches ↔ mm

The standard relationships for print and screen sizing:

inches = pixels ÷ DPI  ·  pixels = inches × DPI  ·  mm = inches × 25.4

Example: 1920 × 1080 pixels at 300 DPI → 6.4 × 3.6 inches (162.6 × 91.4 mm) print area. At 96 DPI (CSS reference), the same image spans 20 × 11.25 inches on a logical screen grid.

PPI to DPI converter — in practice PPI and DPI are used interchangeably for digital displays and inkjet/laser output; both count dots or pixels along one inch. This tool treats them as the same numeric input.

Cm to pixel converter with DPI — print & design

Need a cm to pixel converter with DPI? Convert cm to inches (÷ 2.54), then multiply by DPI — or use single-dimension mode: enter pixels and DPI to read mm and cm directly.

Common print targets:

  • Cm to pixel converter with 200 DPI — 10 cm wide ≈ 3.94 in × 200 = 787 px
  • 150 DPI — draft posters and large-format viewing distance
  • 300 DPI — brochures, photos, crisp text (offset and home inkjet)
  • 72–96 DPI — web mockups and CSS layout reference

For ISO paper sizes (A4, Letter) at any DPI, see the Paper Size Converter — A4 at 300 DPI = 2,480 × 3,508 px.

Print DPI vs screen PPI vs monitor density

Print: vendors specify DPI for raster assets — 300 DPI means 300 dots of ink per inch. Export Photoshop, Figma, or Canva files at the target DPI so pixel dimensions match the physical trim size.

Screen: browsers use a 96 DPI CSS reference (1 inch = 96 px). Retina and HiDPI displays multiply physical pixels via devicePixelRatio — a 1920×1080 CSS layout may use 3840×2160 physical pixels at 2×. A DPI calculator monitor workflow: divide horizontal resolution by panel width in inches to estimate PPI (e.g. 1920 px ÷ 20 in = 96 PPI).

This mouse calculator DPI page title sometimes appears in searches — but hardware mouse DPI (sensor counts per inch of mouse mat movement) is a different topic from print/display DPI. See the gaming section below.

Gaming eDPI & mouse DPI — what this tool is not

Gamers search for eDPI calculator, eDPI calculator Valorant, Apex Legends eDPI calculator, CS GO DPI calculator, Valorant DPI calculator, and DPI sens calculator — those compute effective sensitivity:

eDPI = mouse DPI × in-game sensitivity

This page is a print and pixel-dimension tool. It does not multiply mouse DPI by Valorant, CS2, or Apex sensitivity. Searches like 400 DPI to 800 DPI converter, 800 DPI to 400 DPI converter, or mouse DPI converter usually mean changing hardware/driver DPI steps — not converting image pixel density.

To match feel between games, use an eDPI formula: if you play 800 DPI × 0.5 sens = 400 eDPI in CS2, set Valorant sens so 800 × Val sens = 400. That is sensitivity math, not inches = pixels ÷ DPI. This calculator stays in the design and print lane.

Likewise, calculate mouse DPI with a ruler test measures how far the cursor moves — a hardware calibration task, not pixel-to-inch conversion.

Three modes — pixels, inches & single dimension

Pixels → Print size: Enter width and height in pixels plus DPI. Read inches, mm, and diagonal — ideal before sending art to a print shop.

Inches → Pixels: Enter physical trim size and DPI. Read required pixel dimensions and total pixel count for file setup.

Single dimension: One pixel value → inches, mm, cm at your chosen DPI, plus quick comparisons at 72, 96, and 300 DPI presets in the result grid.

Use cases: resize a logo for a 2-inch badge at 300 DPI (600 px wide), check if 1920×1080 is large enough for an 8×10 print (it is not at 300 DPI — you need ~2400×3000), or convert web assets between 96 and 144 DPI export settings.

Worked examples & quick reference

8.5 × 11 in @ 300 DPI: 2,550 × 3,300 px (US Letter full bleed planning)

1 inch @ 300 DPI: 300 px = 25.4 mm

500 px @ 200 DPI: 500 ÷ 200 = 2.5 in = 63.5 mm

210 mm (A4 width) @ 300 DPI: 8.27 in × 300 ≈ 2,480 px

Enter your values in the calculator above — an easy calculator DPI alternative to spreadsheet formulas, private and instant. For typography pt ↔ px at 96 DPI, use the Typography Converter in Unit Converters.

Detailed guide

Print at target DPI

Set export DPI in Photoshop, Figma, or InDesign to match the vendor — usually 300 for CMYK print. Pixel dimensions = inch trim × DPI.

96 vs 300 DPI

Same inch size needs more pixels at 300 DPI than 96. A 4×6 photo needs 1200×1800 px at 300, not 384×576.

Gaming vs print DPI

Mouse DPI and eDPI affect cursor speed in games. Print DPI affects ink dots per inch — different meaning, same acronym.

Common questions

DPI / PPI — pixels, print & gaming FAQ

DPI vs PPI?

Often interchangeable: dots or pixels per inch. Same formula for this calculator.

Pixels from inches?

pixels = inches × DPI. Example: 8 in × 300 DPI = 2,400 px.

Inches from pixels?

inches = pixels ÷ DPI. Example: 1920 px ÷ 96 = 20 in.

Cm to pixels at 200 DPI?

cm ÷ 2.54 = inches, then × 200. Or use single-dimension mode.

Is this an eDPI calculator?

No — eDPI is mouse DPI × game sensitivity. This tool converts pixel dimensions.

400 to 800 DPI mouse converter?

Hardware DPI steps are not unit conversion. This tool maps pixels ↔ physical size.

Standard screen DPI?

CSS uses 96 DPI. Retina displays use higher physical PPI via devicePixelRatio.

Print DPI?

300 DPI for quality print; 150 for draft; 72–96 for screen-only.

Is data uploaded?

No — all math runs locally in your browser.
